Essential Moving Tips & Policies

Your moving date is coming up soon. Please use these tips to make everything go smoothly and avoid unexpected costs.

Important: Please read the disclaimer/policy and share with all involved in this move (tenants, household members, representatives, owners, renters, landlords).

Packing Tips

Save money and protect your items

  • Be ready and organized - Not being ready will cost more since we work hourly.
  • Save money by doing the packing and unpacking yourself.
  • Plan packing as soon as you know you're moving. Pack items you don't use often first.
  • Boxes: Use uniform-size boxes when possible. They stack neatly and securely in the truck, maximizing space and stability.
  • Use Heavy-Duty boxes (small and medium) from Home Depot or Lowe's.
  • Pack all loose and small items in boxes. This prevents loss and damage. Everything boxed saves time loading/unloading.
  • Pack for Strength Fill Completely: A box should be full (stuff empty spaces with packing paper or linens) to prevent crushing. Don’t Overfill: The box should close flat without bulging. An overfilled box is weak and can burst.
  • Tape Securely: Use strong packing tape (not masking or duct tape) to seal the bottom and top seams in an "H" pattern for maximum strength.
  • Label Clearly & Strategically: Mark "FRAGILE," "LIQUIDS," or "THIS SIDE UP" prominently.
  • Destination: Label with the ROOM NAME it goes to in the new home (e.g., "KITCHEN," "MASTER BEDROOM")
  • Weight: Write "HEAVY" on boxes with dense items (books, tools) and keep them small. Use larger boxes only for light items (linens, pillows).
  • Separate breakables and non-breakables. Use wrapping paper inside carton top and bottom for cushioning.

The Golden Result

Organized packing = a faster, safer move. Following these steps saves significant time during loading, transporting, and unloading, making the move smoother for everyone

Preparation Checklist

Get ready for moving day

  • Reserve a safe loading/unloading area for the moving truck to park as near as possible. Notify neighbors and check permit requirements if needed. For apartment moves: Reserve the elevator.
  • If everything in your home doesn't need to be moved, use BLUE TAPE on items to keep confusion minimal.
  • If moving to storage, have cardboard to protect/wrap furniture while in storage.
  • Disassemble furniture that won't fit through doors or is difficult to place in truck.
  • Secure or remove removable shelves from cabinets/bookshelves.
  • Secure the doors of cabinets from opening accidentally.
  • Clear the Path: Remove obstacles, doormats, and debris from sidewalks, hallways, and staircases.
  • Notify us of any item that may need special attention because of weak construction, expensive or special handling instructions.
  • Designate and plan a good parking space for moving truck to load/unload.
  • Remove all contents from furniture before we arrive.
  • Seal all Boxes/Containers/Bins with tape. We're not responsible for spills from non-secured containers.
  • Provide restroom access for staff.
  • Call us the day before your scheduled move for last-minute updates and to ensure everyone is on the same page.
  • Have on hand an updated list of items to be moved and any special instructions.
